This introductory course is a combination didactic and hands-on training program that will guide the sonogrpaher
or the sonography student through the basic concepts of abdominal ultrasound. The didactic 8-hour portion of this course includes
basic comprehensive fundamentals of ultrasound physics and knobology. The student will be able to describe the abdominal
cross-sectional anatomy of the major upper abdominal systems and recognize normal sonographic anatomy of the liver, pancreas,
gallbladder and bile ducts, renals, spleen, aorta and IVC, known landmarks for routine measurements, and review of common
pathology of the systems. The eight hour hands on will allow the student to become familiar with the scan planes necessary
to produce images of a normal complete abdomen ultrasound. The course is not designed to be a substitute for a college or
registry review program.
