This is a comprehensive course in the knowledge and skills required to perform a basic obstetrical ultrasound targeted at
the general radiology department, Ob/Gyn clinic or physicians office. Recognizing problems, conditions and pathologies
that require further investigation by high risk consultation is imperative to any person performing obstetrical ultrasound.
The course is designed to help the sonographer recognize the conditions requiring more advanced interrogation and follow-up.
The basic fundamentals of ultrasound physics and machine knobology will be covered in the didactic portion.
At the completion of the program
the participant should be able to describe routine scan protocols for performing transabdominal and transvaginal obstetrical
ultrasound, be familiar with sonographic findings of 1st trimester ultrasound for both the normal and unsuccessful pregnancies.
The student will be able to recognize normal fetal anatomy 2nd trimester and be familiar with the major fetal anomalies in
the following systems: GI, GU, CNS, Skeletal, Cardiac, Face, Thorax. The correct calipers placement and landmarks for
measuring fetal parameters and amniotic fluid will be covered. Normal and abnormal placental anatomy including
the evaluation of the placenta position and grade will be discussed. Sonography of the multiple gestation pregnancy and its
complication will be covered as well.
