This course is a combination didactic and hands-on training program that will guide the sonographer
or the sonography student through the basic concepts of small part ultrasound. It is not designed to be a substitute
for a college or registry review program. The topics covered are listed below. The basic fundamentals of ultrasound
physics and machine knobology will be covered in the didactic portion. At the completion of the program the participant
should be able to describe the abdominal cross-sectional anatomy and recognize normal sonographic anatomy of the following:
testes, thyroid, prostate (transabominal and transrectal). They also should know the landmarks for routine measurements
and the common pathology of the systems above. Ultrasound guided interventional protocols of the thyroid and prostate
will be discussed. The hands-on portion of this course will include expert help with scanning all of the above with the exception
of transrectal prostate.
